The New Zealand Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (NZAIO) is a non-profit national organisation that provides leadership and inspiration in artificial intelligence for gifted and talented students within New Zealand’s schooling system and beyond. We support academic competition in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computational problem-solving, with a strong focus on developing students who can understand and create AI, not only use it.

• Connect talented students with expert academic mentorship
• Grow long-term opportunities for New Zealand participation in global AI olympiads

In 2026, NZAIO supported a New Zealand team to compete in Slovenia at the International AI Olympiad (IAIO), where the students earned gold and silver medals alongside other significant recognition. That result reflects the potential of New Zealand students when they have access to serious preparation and support.
